Bookshelf

The Problem

Bookshelf was an exciting prototype to work on. In fact, the problem that prompted the project was a make-shift bookshelf in my office; every time I took a book the shelf would drop. I knew there had to be a better way!

My Process

In my head I visualized an Augmented Reality solution, where you could quickly skim through the books, by sliding your finger, whilst a detail pop-up would appear over the active book. I started drawing simple sketches and placed them above the books. I visualized next steps of selecting a book, and having a large graphic appear on the wall.

Learning

I reviewed the Meta Quest Interaction SDK, and UI features. And began working through the sample scenes. They were awesome! In addition to learning how to approach my project technically, they gave me ideas for interactions I could use in the project!

Integration

Once I had an understanding of how I would want to approach the Design and Technical aspects of the project. I started designing the screens in sketch. I then took my designs, and split up the layers, imported them into Unity, and with DoTween, and triggers through the Meta SDK, I was able to animate the UI based on various app states, it was a lot of fun!

Reactions

The post was well recieved on LinkedIn, and I recieved really great feedback, positive, negative, insightful, all giving me a better understanding of the view of XR, and helping me further expand how my knowledge of the industry.
