CD Player
Bring the ritual of choosing a disc into a touch interface.
Naoto Fukasawa’s wall-mounted CD player made me wonder how handling music could feel on a phone. I focused on the disc as an object: lifting it, choosing an album, and watching it settle back into the player.
The Blender studies developed from a cylinder blockout into a player with separate housing, spindle, disc bed, and laser assembly. Subtle plastic texture and distinct rubber, metal, and glass materials make the parts readable.
In the later native implementation, holding lifts the disc and reveals neighboring albums. Keeping the finger down allows sideways selection; release drops the chosen disc into the player. A Metal shader gives the foil view-dependent color, and the album art preserves the center hole.
MusicKit supplies a library and playback path, but personal-library playback has not been verified against my account. Offline demo sessions exercise the interaction separately. The recording captures an earlier stage than the current disc-selection implementation.
I would check whether people discover the hold gesture and choose an album accurately, then verify authorization, unavailable music, and interrupted playback on a signed-in device.
